Family friendly stops between Launceston & Black River

If you’re travelling to the farm from the Launceston airport you might like to have a few stops, especially if you’re travelling with children. It’s about a 2 & 1/2 hour drive along some beautiful coastline.

Here is a list of our families favourite places to get some fresh air and something to eat to break up the trip.

Van Diemens Land Creamery - Elizabeth Town

You will find this ice-cream dotted around Tassie in cafe’s and restaurants but it’s worth stopping in to the factory on the way past to learn more about the fresh ice cream and taste as many flavours as possible!

Elizabeth Town Cafe - Elizabeth Town

The perfect stop for a quick coffee, lunch and a toilet stop. The cafe is just off the highway, with a bakery style menu, ideal if you are short on time and don’t want to detour from the main road.

Reliquaire - Latrobe

This is a famous Tassie gift, homewares and toy store that is super unique! It’s not a regular shop but more of a fun immersive experience for children and parents alike. The store also has a coffee shop if you would like to enjoy a drink when you finish shopping.

The House of Anvers - Latrobe

A shop/factory/cafe that produces and sells handmade truffles, fudges and specialty chocolates. The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating under some beautiful trees. Enjoy some chocolate samples after the free self guided factory tour.

The Antique Emporium - Devonport

A small detour off the main highway but well worth it if you enjoy browsing through antiques and vintage wares. It’s a big store so allow plenty of time. Unfortunately the shop isn’t pram friendly.

The Berry Patch - Turners Beach

The cafe boasts an indoor and outdoor seating option with a wood-fire pizza oven. But better than that there is a huge outdoor playing area for the kids that includes a sandpit, table tennis and hay bales to climb. If in season, you can buy the best strawberries you will ever taste or pick your own. The homemade berry soft serve is also an absolute must!

The Small Folk - Penguin

A curated children’s store that sells a selection of wooden, felt and play based learning tools that encourage imagination and fun. Penguin is a cute little coastal town with some other shops, cafe’s and a park.

The Wynyard Park - Wynyard

A really big park on the Wynyard foreshore. Plenty of room for the children to run around with a flying fox, toddler space and heaps of large climbing equipment, swings and slides for the bigger children. There is a takeaway store in front of the park to grab some chips and nuggets.

Wynyard has the last Woolworths and IGA before the farm so it’s a good place to call in and grab supplies.

Seekers Bar & Cafe - Boat Harbour Beach

Only half hour from the farm but another good cafe to stop at with children as it has a park and is right on the beach. If you sit on one of the outside tables the children can play while you enjoy yummy food and drinks. The beach has beautiful white sand and bright blue water.
